Instructions
Let's look at some of the vocabulary used in the story from the Easy-to-Read Version of the Bible.
Calf
A young cow. The calf in this story is being killed in order to have a big meal for lots of people. Eating meat was not something people could afford to do every day at that time, so it would have been considered a special treat.
Famine
When an area is not producing enough food for the people who live there. People go hungry and some may die.
Hired
Someone who is paid money to work
Pharisee
A group of people who wanted to practice the religion of Judaism in a way that was more conservative.
Slave
A person that is owned by another person, and therefore has no freedom to choose what they do in their life.
