Elijah and the Widow
Let's learn what a drought is and how it relates to the story.
What is drought?
For a plant to grow, it needs water, sunshine, and dirt. If it doesn’t have any one of these things, it will probably not grow. A drought is when there is not enough rain for the plants to grow. Sometime a drought can last for years. This is bad, because people grow plants for food, like potatoes, corn and tomatoes.
This story of Elijah happens during a drought, which is why everyone is so worried about where they will get food.
Have you ever lived in a drought? Why were you able to still find food? How might the world have been different in Elijah's time when there were no grocery stores?
Can you name some foods that you eat that are grown in the ground?
